When most people think of wearing eye glasses, they imagine themselves being much older and further along in their life, and hopefully they are right. To see if you are a good candidate for Lasik, ask yourself the following questions:
1) Are you 18 years or older? Your eyes tend to stop maturing after the age of 18, and help the Lasik continue to be affective long after the surgery. Everyone’s eyes tend to mature at different stages, but those that are older than 18 have the best results. Your eye doctor can tell you if your eyes have matured or not yet.
2) Has your vision been stable for at least a year? If you have had the same eye prescription for 1-2 years, you should be a good candidate.
3) Have you had any eye infections lasting longer than a year, or an auto-immune disease? If so, consult your eye doctor first. Depending on the condition, Lasik may not be an option.
4) Have your cornea’s been scarred or is they abnormal at all? If so, consult with your eye doctor and see if your eyes are good candidates.
5) You cannot be pregnant or currently nursing. So if you are, you must wait until after you are completed nursing.
Once you have your answers for most of these questions, then you can have a great consultation with your eye doctor. There is no time like the present to discuss this option and the sooner the better. The longer you wait to have Lasik done, the more complicated it may become. You must have realistic expectations after your eye surgery as well. It may not last forever, and there is a possibility that you may need the surgery later on in life as well.
